The Director of the Cardiff Knowledge Hub, Professor Ole Petersen CBE FRS, has written an editorial on ‘Reproducibility – again’, which has been published in the 1st February issue of the highly respected ‘The Journal of Physiology’.
In this article, Ole Petersen questions the oft-repeated narrative of a rapidly escalating reproducibility crisis but, warning against complacency, also calls for measures to improve clarity of presentation in scientific papers and emphasizes the overriding importance of high-quality recordings and images as well as appropriateness of experimental protocols. He concludes that journals published by scientific societies have a particularly good record of publishing scientific papers with data that have stood the test of time.
