Psychiatric face of COVID-19’: by Luca Steardo Jr, Luca Steardo MAE and Alex Verkhratsky MAE


This review highlights the importance of appropriate management of psychiatric aspects of COVID-19. The authors consider that paying insufficient attention to such issues could have serious implications for patients’ mental wellbeing.


In the review, the authors discuss the serious clinical challenges posed by COVID-19 systemic inflammation that can affect the central nervous system and aggravate mental health disorders.


The open access article has been published in Nature in the Translational Psychiatry journal.

About Alex Verkhratsky MAE

Alex Verkhratsky is a Professor of Neurophysiology at the University of Manchester. Since 2012 he is Adjunct Director of Achucarro Basque Centre for Neuroscience in Bilbao. He became a member of the Academia Europaea in 2003 and in 2013 a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
