The Cardiff Hub’s 30th anniversary reception, held on 14th January, featured a lively discussion on Plan S, an initiative for open-access science publishing. Plan S was launched in September 2018 by an international consortium of research funders, cOAlition S, supported by the ERC and launched by Science Europe.
Prof Ole Petersen, the Hub’s Academic Director, and Dr Mangala Srinivas, Chair Young Academy of Europe (YAE), introduced the topic, followed by audience discussion.
Continuing the Academia Europaea’s 30th anniversary celebrations into 2019, the Cardiff Hub held its own celebration on Monday 14th January.
On 14th January, the Cardiff Hub held its annual Steering Group meeting in the Glamorgan Building at Cardiff University.
Professor John Skehel MAE chaired the meeting which was attended by Professor Yves-Alain Barde MAE, Professor Theo D’Haen MAE, Professor Dianne Edwards MAE, Professor Genoveva Marti MAE, Professor Ole Petersen MAE and Professor John V. Tucker MAE. Assistant Professor Mangala Srivinas FYAE, Chair of the Young Academy of Europe, was invited as a guest.
Over 100 members of Academia Europaea travelled from far and wide to attend Academia Europaea’s 30th Annual Conference, Building Bridges, in Barcelona which took place on 29th November 2018. The event was held at the atmospheric Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC), home to the Barcelona Knowledge Hub.
Professor Nicole Grobert, former Young Academy of Europe (YAE) Chair, has been appointed to the European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors (GCSA). Nicole is a Royal Society Industry Fellow, Professor of Nanomaterials at the Department of Materials in the University of Oxford and a visiting Professor at the Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre at Toyo University, Japan.
