We collaborate with a range of stakeholders including universities, government bodies and academies.
Universities
Academia Europaea’s fourth regional Hub was set up in Cardiff in 2016, after signing a collaboration agreement with Cardiff University. Cardiff University’s world-leading research was ranked 20th amongst UK universities in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework for quality and 11th for impact. Through Cardiff, we are able to connect with universities across Wales, the rest of the UK and overseas.
Government and international bodies
We are part of the European Scientific Advice Mechanism, (SAM) and a member of the SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies) consortium. In SAPEA, we work in partnership with other European academies ALLEA, FEAM Euro-CASE and YASAS to produce independent evidence review reports for the European Commission. The first SAPEA evidence review report, Food from the Oceans, was coordinated by us. The EC Group of Chief Scientific Advisors uses SAPEA reports to make policy recommendations to the European Commission. This transparent process ensures that the EC’s proposals for policy and legislation are well-informed.
Academies
We have close connections with national academies, such as the Learned Society of Wales (LSW), as well as the Young Academy of Europe (YAE).
