EMPOWER: Celebrating women in academia

This event, held on 3rd December at Cardiff University, brought together participants to discuss challenges, share insights, and celebrate achievements of women in academia.

The conference, part of a series dedicated to promoting gender equity, featured talks by prominent speakers, including Professor Margaret Watson, author of Women in Academia, and Professor Susan Wong, who addressed challenges faced by women in academia.

The Academia Europaea Cardiff Hub participated in the poster session, highlighting its contributions to the CALIPER Project, which it joined in 2021. As part of this initiative, the Hub launched a role model interview series, featuring one-on-one conversations with women from STEM academia and industry. These interviews provided valuable insights into their career journeys, achievements, and efforts to advance gender equality in their fields.

Over time, the interview series has expanded, to include a dedicated Academia Europaea gender equality series, focusing on critical areas such as career progression, decision-making, and fostering institutional change.

Workshops ran alongside the poster sessions, offering practical guidance on enhancing agency in academia and translating evidence into effective practice.

The key messages of the event were captured in live illustrations by Laura Sorvala.
