Cardiff maps EU policy landscape for major new energy report

A team at Cardiff University has mapped the European policy landscape for the latest SAPEA Evidence Review Report on energy transition.

On 29th June 2021, the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism published two major documents on a systemic approach to the energy transition in Europe.

The Evidence Review Report from SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies) presents the latest scientific evidence on this topic, together with a series of evidence-based policy options, while the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors’ Scientific Opinion, informed by this evidence, presents key policy recommendations.

Cardiff leads on policy mapping

Cardiff University was asked to map the policy landscape related to energy transition in Europe. An important part of SAPEA’s Evidence Review Report, this mapping was led by Frederico Rocha, Manager of the European Documentation Centre

It conveys how EU energy policy has evolved over time and maps out the key initiatives put forward within the Energy Union to meet climate and energy goals, such as the Clean Planet for all (2018) and the European Green Deal (2018).

The AE Cardiff Knowledge Hub acted on behalf of Academia Europaea to deliver the policy mapping work.
