Statement by the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology Development

The Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology Development has asked for its statement concerning the Russian war against Ukraine to be signposted throughout Europe.

Professor Ole Petersen CBE FRS, Director of the AE Cardiff Knowledge Hub, said:

“The statement from the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology Development makes the important point that although the support for Ukrainian scientists seeking shelter in other European countries is essential and welcome, because it saves lives, there will also be a requirement after the war to provide substantial support for Ukrainian scientists and scholars inside Ukraine. In an article, just published in AE’s European Review, I have written “Contrary to our intention of supporting Ukrainian scientists in Ukraine to be able to work in their own country, the poor nation, concentrating its resources on the defence against criminal Russian aggression, became a donor of highly educated scientists to the rich western world.” We owe it to this brave nation to reverse the brain drain.”
