Work continues for science advice consortium

The SAPEA consortium, which includes Academia Europaea, has been funded to continue its science advice work until the end of 2024.

The SAPEA project has been renewed for a further period, covering May 2022 to December 2024. An integral part of the European Scientific Advice Mechanism since 2016, SAPEA delivers evidence reviews that inform the work of the European Group of Chief Scientific Advisors

Initially funded under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, the project has switched to Horizon Europe. Academia Europaea and its Cardiff Hub, which undertakes most of the work on AE’s behalf, have received a funding guarantee from UK Research & Innovation (UKRI). Academia Europaea will continue to lead evidence reviews on behalf of the consortium, as well as the work package on strategic development.

About the project

Academia Europaea is a member of the SAPEA consortium, together with the European academies:

SAPEA produces independent evidence review reports that are used by the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to make policy recommendations to the EC. This transparent process ensures that the EC’s proposals for policy and legislation are well-informed.

The AE Cardiff Hub has led three SAPEA evidence reviews to date:

Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation.

UKRI is a public body that brings together seven disciplinary research councils, Research England and Innovate UK.

SAPEA is funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are those of the authors only, and do not necessarily reflect those of the EU or the European Commission, neither of which can be held responsible for them.
