Fantastic news for European Science and Scholarship

The European Commission and the UK Government have reached agreement on the association of the UK to Horizon Europe and Copernicus.

UK researchers will be able to fully participate in the Horizon Europe programme on the same terms as researchers from other associated countries, including leading consortia, from the 2024 Work Programmes and onwards. The Cardiff Hub’s participation in the current SAPEA project is also assured through the UK Government’s guarantee scheme.

Professor Ole Petersen CBE MAE FRS, Director of the AE Cardiff Knowledge Hub said:

“This is a great day for European Science. European cooperation is essential for the quality of scientific research in an increasingly competitive world. The UK is a significant science power and the new cooperation agreement strengthens the position of both the EU and the UK in the world. The AE Cardiff Hub plays an important role in the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism, via SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies), and the new cooperation agreement should enable this role to be continued for many more years.”
