New treatment to protect patients from severe COVID-19 is being tested in the UK

Sir Stephen Holgate MAE leads the research group at the University of Southampton where the new treatment has been developed.

Gemma Modinos appointed Chair of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) Board

Gemma Modinos appointed Chair of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) Board

At the virtual 2020 annual general meeting, YAE members elected Dr Gemma Modinos as the new Chair of the Board

On becoming Chair of the YAE Board she said:

It was a great honour for me to be elected Chair of the Young Academy of Europe, an organisation that I am passionate about. I am grateful to the previous Chairs for the opportunity to learn from them during my first two years on the Board. As young scholars prepare for the complex post-COVID world, my vision is to lead the YAE and to use its trans-disciplinary strengths and excellence to solve challenges we face in Europe. As a grassroots initiative, I truly believe in the YAE’s power to bring about change, as a platform for young scholars to build support, to explore and debate new ideas, and to have a clear voice in European science policy. I am looking forward to working alongside my colleagues in the YAE community to further enhance the YAE’s role and influence. I am also very excited about strengthening our partnership with Academia Europaea and the wonderful opportunities that this will bring for both organisations, as well as for the wider European research community.”
